Froling David A. Froling passed away Sunday, March 15, 2015 at the age of 83. Many of you may be aware he got lost near the Fish Lake area in Jackson County. Search and Rescue along with several other teams were looking for him. We all thank these great people for their efforts. Dave just got tired, laid down, went to sleep, and never woke up. But he died on his terms by being in the woods, getting his pine cones for his hobby, with his dog, Bruno. Bruno stayed by his side until he was found, ever a good dog. Dave was born in Eugene, Ore. March 21, 1931. He grew up in Reedsport, Ore. and Eugene, where he graduated from Eugene High School in 1949. He was a good athlete, playing basketball, baseball, and was on the golf team. He also attended the University of Oregon. Dave enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps where he reached the rank of Sergeant. He served during the Korean War and traveled extensively through Asia. Dave received numerous commendations and was honorably discharged in January of 1953. For many years, he worked for Reichold Chemicals, selling glue to the plywood industry all around the northwest until his retirement. He then worked quality control for various firms for several years. Dave loved hunting and fishing. Elk, deer, salmon, or trout, he was always eager to go. Camping was his preferred way to hunt until age made a motel more comfortable. He also loved sports, playing and watching them. He was an avid golfer for many years. Dave played all sports with his kids, but often told them he wouldn’t let them win, they had to beat him. They tried, but quite often he would win, not always. He loved the Oregon Ducks but would root for Oregon State as long as they weren’t playing the Ducks. Most of all, he just liked a well-played game. Dave also enjoyed making arts and crafts, hence his being in the woods collecting knob cone pine cones and everyone loved the beauty of the things he made. Dave is survived by five children, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a sister, a former wife, girlfriends, and his many friends. He was loved and respected, and will be greatly missed.
