Casey Brooks, 34, remains in the Jackson County Jail without bail this morning on charges of attempt to elude, third-degree assault, hit and run, reckless endangerment, reckless driving and a parole violation stemming from a past methamphetamine possession case. Medford police said the chase began at 9:04 p.m. Wednesday on Springbrook Road near North Medford High School. An officer parked on the road saw Brooks fly past in a Mitsubishi Eclipse, headlights unlit. "(The officer) also noticed other vehicles were flashing lights at him," said Lt. Mike Budreau. The officer pursued Brooks onto Roberts Road and tried to pull the vehicle over, without success. Brooks turned north onto Keene Way and accelerated, shooting around another car before turning onto Bradbury Street. Police continued to pursue him to the intersection of Crater Lake Avenue and Delta Waters Road, where they came upon the Mitsubishi — just-crashed and abandoned. The 26-year-old driver of a 2014 Subaru he had crashed into complained of hip, leg and arm pain and went to Providence Medford Medical Center to be checked out. A subsequent search of the area ended in the 2900 block of Crater Lake Avenue at about 10 p.m. when they found Brooks hiding in a shed. He was arrested and taken to jail. His exact speed through the area neighborhoods was not available. Budreau said Brooks is well-known to local police. Court records show he has felony convictions stretching back to 2001, including attempt to elude, delivery of a controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine, and first-degree theft.
