Medford nightclub owner sued over altercation By CHRIS BRISTOL A disturbance last week at the Medford nightclub Ground Zero has led one customer to file a lawsuit against the owner, claiming he grabbed her by the throat. Selena Mahoney sued club owner Ken Miller just two days after an April 16 incident that attracted the attention of police and resulted in the arrest of two others. The suit seeks more than $250,000 in damages, according to the complaint filed in Jackson County Court. Mahoney, 23, alleged that a group of friends or acquaintances were being escorted from the club when she was accosted at the front entrance by Miller, who grabbed her by the throat and pushed her backwards. Mahoney alleged that Miller cursed her and said, "I never want to see you come back in here again!" The alleged altercation may have been recorded by a security camera. Mahoney claimed the alleged attack caused painful physical injuries, including wrenching of her neck and spine, as well as post-traumatic stress disorder and other emotional injuries. "It is likely that plaintiff will continue to experience emotional and physical pain and suffering, and will continue to be limited in activities," the lawsuit said, citing an exact dollar figure of $252,300 for pain and suffering. The lawsuit names Ground Zero and S.S.E. Inc. as co-defendants. It also accuses Miller, who owns controlling interest in S.S.E. Inc., of numerous corporate violations. Mahoney's attorney, Shane Reed of Jacksonville, declined to comment. Miller could not be reached for comment. Ground Zero is closed Monday and Tuesday. According to police records, two men were arrested at Ground Zero about the same time as the alleged Mahoney-Miller altercation. Both were charged with disorderly conduct, while one was also cited for third-degree assault. Addition details were unavailable. Ground Zero is located at 123 S. Front St. in downtown Medford. Miller formerly owned Remix, a now-defunct Medford teen club.
