Lately, we've been getting bombarded by Charter Spectrum mailings. Sounds like a great deal, but what happens when Charter goes away this summer. Does Charter continue collecting money from me and my service goes away? What kind of legal protections do I have from Charter and Comcast? —  Herman T., via email   Two phrases Herman: "Nothing is as it seems" and "Read the fine print." We called the number on the fliers, thinking the well-schooled customer service agents on the other end of the line could answer your question and ours. "Medford, Oregon?" News of the $45 billion deal announced more than a year ago came as a surprise. On Feb.13, 2014, Time Warner Cable agreed to a $45 billion acquisition by Comcast. In April, Comcast and Charter announced an exchange of 1.6 million existing Time Warner Cable customers for 1.6 million Charter customers, improving the geographic presence of both companies. Thus, leading to greater operational efficiencies, improved technology deployment, and enhanced customer service. That means, if government regulators sign off, Medford will become Comcast territory, as you read last year.  We then left messages with Comcast and Charter, to see if the deal you are contemplating would remain in effect after the customer swap. "please know that after the close of the transaction there will be a transition period. Charter and Comcast will work together to ensure that Charter customers experience a seamless transition to Comcast," Kim Haas, Charter's Madison, Wisc.-based Central and Pacific regional communications director said in an email. We wrote back: "Does that mean agreed-upon pricing will remain the same for the duration of the advertised period? "I can’t comment beyond that statement right now," Haas wrote.
