Applegate house destroyed by fire Monday Jan 9, 2017 at 4:16 PM Jan 9, 2017 at 4:16 PM APPLEGATE — A two-alarm fire destroyed an Applegate home over the weekend, but no one was injured. The fire, reported at 9:14 p.m. Saturday at 7955 Thompson Creek Road, burned the structure to the ground. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Four Applegate Fire District No. 9 engines responded to the first alarm, and when they arrived the house was fully engulfed by fire, according to District 9 Fire Chief Mike McLaughlin. A call for a second alarm summoned two more engines from Rural/Metro Fire and Fire District 9, along with three water tenders. The two people inside the house made it out safely on their own and without injury, McLaughlin said. Due to the fire's size, crews went on the defensive to prevent the flames from spreading. "Several outbuildings and shops were saved, along with numerous vehicles and a boat," McLaughlin said.
