Police still looking for missing Central Point man Douglas Edwin Vail Thursday Sep 21, 2017 at 4:14 PM Sep 21, 2017 at 5:57 PM Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune @RyanPfeil Jackson County sheriff's search and rescue teams are still searching the Union Creek area for Central Point resident Douglas Edwin Vail, who went missing there earlier this month, though searches have not been conducted daily. "We have not suspended the search by any means," said Sgt. Shawn Richards. "We're still looking, but it's more sporadic. Every chance we get." Vail, 65, has been missing since Sept. 9 after he traveled to the area for a fishing trip. He was reported missing when he didn't return home that night as scheduled. A deputy found Vail's gray 2012 Toyota Camry parked near Beckie's Cafe the morning of Sept. 10. Police and search and rescue personnel conducted ground searches and airplane reconnaissance. The initial search area had a radius of about a half mile around where Vail's car was found, Sheriff Nathan Sickler said, with additional searches along parts of Union Creek. Recent wet weather temporarily grounded the flights, though Richards said they will resume as soon as the weather clears up. "As information comes in, we'll continue to obviously search," Sickler said. "Right now we've kind of exhausted the initial ground-searching efforts." Vail is described as 5-feet-11 and 180 pounds, with blue eyes and short gray hair. He was last seen wearing a brimmed hat, unknown color shirt and jeans or cargo shorts.
