The Challengers lost seven key players from last season but continued to roll Tuesday with a 44-24 Southern Cascade League win over host St. Mary’s. Junior forward Amanda Duchien led a balanced scoring effort with nine points as Cascade Christian improved to 10-3 overall and 2-1 in the SCL. "I’m real happy with our progress," said King. "Right now, the defense and our bench are our strengths. We’re definitely ahead of where I thought we’d be." St. Mary’s dropped to 0-3 in the SCL. "We had almost 40 turnovers as a team," said first-year St. Mary’s coach Vic Matoush. "Despite that, the kids played a lot harder (than the first two league games). Turnovers and lack of execution continue to hurt us." Advertisement The Crusaders (3-7 overall) recovered from a rough first quarter — they were outscored 10-2 — to trail 20-11 at the half. But Duchien, who hauled in 10 rebounds, nailed a 3-pointer to start the third period, sparking a 24-13 surge over the final two quarters. Chelsea Winner added eight points for Cascade Christian, while Sarah Brown finished with nine of her team’s 21 steals. Britta Beckstead scored eight points to lead St. Mary’s, and junior Isabell Keller hauled in six rebounds. CASCADE CHRISTIAN (44) — Duchien 9, Winner 8, S. Brown 6, Gmur 6, M.
