Steven Michael Wise, 27, was arrested without incident Oct. 4, 2014, by Klamath County Sheriff’s Office deputies. He was indicted by a grand jury on two counts of attempted murder and three counts of first-degree arson. Wise allegedly set fire to a 25-by-50 foot shed in the 3500 block of Crest Street, Sept. 29. The act may have been motivated by a dispute over damage to Wise’s bike. According to court documents, Wise allegedly threatened Matthew Colligan via text messages and Facebook posts. One of the texts allegedly included a picture of a knife. One of the Facebook posts included in the court file, allegedly written by Wise, states “one way or another, your payin for my bike whether blood or money it’s up to you.” Colligan told the sheriff’s office he had an altercation with Wise that resulted in Wise’s bicycle being run over by Colligan’s vehicle, which allegedly led to the threats. According to witnesses’ statements and surveillance footage from a nearby school, a male riding a bicycle with a gas can in hand approached the shed. Colligan and his girlfriend, who were living in the structure, woke up to a small fire. The fire was quickly contained, with the total damage estimated at $800. According to court documents, a witness said they saw Wise leaving the scene on a silver mountain bike. During a Wednesday morning court hearing, a three-day, 12-person jury trial was scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. April 1.
