http://www.omniture.com --> Email Story to a Friend June 7, 2006 SOU president will be chosen on Friday Southern Oregon University's new president will be announced Friday, officials said. Among the three candidates is Earl H. Potter III, SOU's executive vice president and provost. The other finalists are Mary Cullinan, provost and vice president for academic affairs at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas; and Peter Hoff, a professor and former president of the University of Maine-Orno. During her tenure at Stephen F. Austin State University, Cullinan says she improved curricular planning, led a process to change a faculty workload policy and hired the first executive director of enrollment management to recruit and retain students, according to an SOU news release. Hoff's achievements at the University of Maine-Orno include helping the school achieve the Carnegie research classification and spurring a significant increase in enrollment and grant support. Potter arrived at SOU in 2003, following a three-year stint as dean of the College of Business at Eastern Michigan University. During that time, Potter said he pulled the college out of probation and helped restore its accreditation. Current President Elisabeth Zinser, who was appointed in 2001, announced her retirement in November. The new president will begin his or her stint later this summer. The Oregon University System board will vote Friday morning and the new president will be announced early that afternoon.
