Jared Hixon was second to lead the Raiders, who totaled 28 team points to second-place Eastern Oregon's 66 on Fernhill Park's 8,000-meter course. In the women's 5K, SOU's Summer Cano was seventh and the 15th-ranked Raiders were third of eight teams. Hixon's finish in 25 minutes, 14 seconds was 1:07 behind All-American Matthew Clowes of Concordia. Each of SOU's next five placers hit the finish within a minute of each other. Max Runia was fourth (25:20), Zach Boyd-Helm was fifth (25:27), Kevin Jorgensen was eighth (26:06), Ray Schireman was 10th (26:08) and Cary Dunagan was 11th (26:09). "The men were good, but our gap from (our third finisher to our fourth) needs to be a lot closer if we expect to do well later in the year," SOU coach Grier Gatlin said. Shea Vallaire won the women's race in 18:11, pacing four Northwest Christian runners in the top five. Cano was 43 seconds off Vallaire's time, and 12th-place Jessa Perkinson was the next Raider in at 19:09. Rebecca Lupescu placed 15th (19:15) and Jessie Rozario 21st (19:42). Stephanie Ramirez was SOU's final scorer in 39th (20:40). Volleyball SOU 3, WARNER PACIFIC 0: At Portland, Warner Pacific put up a fight in the first set before Southern Oregon pulled away, running its win streak to five with a 27-25, 25-13, 25-15 sweep. The 15th-ranked Raiders (10-2 overall, 4-0 Cascade Conference) picked apart the Knights (4-6, 2-3) with a .386 attacking average, marking their most efficient outing of the season. Their previous best was .314. SOU's Paulla Pinheiro was a central instigator with 14 kills and just one error on 23 swings. She has 34 kills in her last two matches, averaging 4.3 per set, and she added six digs. The Raiders' Lauren McGowne assisted 35 of SOU's 39 kills, 13 of which were put down by Motade Atanda. Atanda needed just 26 attacks to get there and went for seven digs, while Nikki Keller finished eight of her 11 swings and assisted four blocks. SOU trailed 18-12 in the opening stanza when Janessa White posted one of her nine kills. The Raiders stormed back, thanks in part to three Pinheiro kills, but still had to break game-point three times. They didn't lead until Atanda's ace made it 26-25, and an attacking error ended it. The next two games weren't nearly as eventful. The Raiders took nine of 10 points to go up 10-4 and cruise in the second, then chipped away at a win in the third, trailing only when it was 1-0. They hit .500 in the second game and .630 in the third, putting down 18 of 27 attacks. Brookelynn Cole came up with a match-best 14 digs, helping keep the Knights at a .139 average. Devan Belshe provided a bright spot with 10 kills.
