Tacos, creole shrimp, stir-fry vegetables and salad are on the menu, along with plenty of laughter and stories about Silvius’ life before his ashes are scattered at the Yreka-Montague Airport. "Jon left explicit directions in what he wanted at a memorial service, so that’s what we’re going to do," said Mike Lee, Klamath Forest supervisor. Silvius, 55, died when the ultralight plane he built crashed at a park in Laramie, where he moved 18 months ago to take a job as spokesman for the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests. Silvius spent 20 years as public information officer for the Yreka-based Klamath National Forest and has family and friends there, Lee said. The 1 p.m. service will be at the Yreka-Montague Airport and will be a pot-luck memorial considered a tradition in the U.S. Forest Service, Lee said. A similar service will be held Jan. 25 in Laramie. The services are planned around a list of details that Silvius, a longtime pilot, wrote before his death, Lee said.
