KLAMATH FALLS SHOOTING Wounded Klamath deputy has ties to Rogue Valley Jason Weber began his law enforcement career with the Ashland Police Department The Klamath County sheriff's deputy who was shot twice during a Wednesday traffic stop in Klamath Falls began his law enforcement career in the Rogue Valley. By Sam Wheeler Mail Tribune MailTribune.com By Sam Wheeler Mail Tribune Posted Aug. 28, 2014 @ 6:37 pm Updated Aug 28, 2014 at 6:38 PM By Sam Wheeler Mail Tribune Posted Aug. 28, 2014 @ 6:37 pm Updated Aug 28, 2014 at 6:38 PM » Social News The Klamath County sheriff's deputy who was shot twice during a Wednesday traffic stop in Klamath Falls began his law enforcement career in the Rogue Valley. Jason Weber, 40, a seven-year veteran of the Klamath County Sheriff's Office, went through the police academy as an Ashland Police Department cadet, said APD Sgt. Jim Alderman. "When I heard it was Jason, I said, 'Oh man,' cause you know the guy. I hope he is doing well," said Alderman, who has worked at APD since 1992. "It's a tragedy and hopefully he is going to be able to recover and come back to work." Alderman said Weber worked in Ashland for about nine months before taking a job at the Jacksonville Police Department. "A lot of our senior guys remember him ... we're not getting a whole lot of updates, because it's medical. ... I wish him the best." Jacksonville police Chief David Towe said he remembers Weber well. During Weber's roughly one-year stay with Jacksonville police during 2007 and 2008, he received a lifesaving award for helping resuscitate a heart-attack victim. "Jason was a great kid — well he's not a kid anymore — he was a great guy ... we're hoping for the best," Towe said. "I spoke with a sergeant (in Klamath County) who said (Weber) was talking when paramedics arrived, so that's a good sign." It's always a struggle when law enforcement officers see a colleague injured in the line of duty, Alderman said, and it especially hits home when it's a familiar face. Few details of what happened in the shooting have been released, except that Weber was shot twice, once in the face and once in the side, and that the assailants drove away in a 1989 black Jeep Cherokee. Police caught up with the suspects early today and arrested William Jack Parkerson, 30, and his girlfriend, Karey Leigh Pascoe, 33, said Klamath County District Attorney Rob Patridge in a press release. Parkerson faces charges of attempted aggravated murder with a firearm and assault with a firearm. Pascoe, 33, faces charges of conspiracy and assault with a firearm. The Jeep Cherokee was registered to Pascoe, The Oregonian reported. Klamath County Sheriff Frank Skrah said in a release that Weber is in serious but stable condition and was scheduled to undergo surgery today in a Portland hospital. Skrah said investigators are still looking into the possibility of others who were involved in the shooting, but he wouldn't say how many or describe how they were involved.
