Foundation director will leave SOU ASHLAND -- Lisa James, the Southern Oregon University Foundation executive director and director of institutional advancement, resigned her posts Thursday. SOU president Stephen Reno praised James for her assistance in making the university's Center for the Visual Arts a reality. Under James's leadership, SOU raised $5.9 million, which along with $5.6 million in state matching funds is being used to build the center. But about a month ago, Reno placed James on paid administrative leave. He said her time off was used to look at options, did not elaborate Thursday. Reno said the foundation will review its direction and organization before hiring a new permanent executive director. An interim executive director will be named in the meantime. Reno said the move will allow James to pursue other interests, and is not contentious. He said she has offered to be available to advise SOU during the transition.
