Weather: Thousands Evacuate South Lake Tahoe as Caldor Fire Grows By Teresa Standstipher Updated: Sep 01, 2021 11:59 AM A A South Lake Tahoe, once a bustling vacation town, is now lifeless as the Caldor Fire inches closer. Having burned over two hundred thousand acres and only 20% contained, more than 53 thousand residents are packing up what they can and leaving their homes, hoping they’ll have a place to come back to.
