Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend October 22, 2005 Dedication will honor man who portrayed Beekman A public dedication of a bench and plaque commemorating the late David Rishell of Jacksonville, who portrayed Cornelius Beekman for the Southern Oregon Historical Society, will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday. The bench is outside the Beekman Bank at the corner of Third and California streets in downtown Jacksonville. Rishell died on May 22. Scheduled dignitaries include Jacksonville Mayor Jim Lewis, Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce President Terri Gieg and Jean Ayers, who portrayed Mrs. Beekman, will offer remarks. Following the dedication, there will be an informal gathering at the Beekman House (California and Laurelwood streets, Jacksonville), where the top hat worn by Rishell in his role as Mr. Beekman will be permanently hung inside the house in tribute. For 13 years, David Rishell portrayed the character of noted banker and entrepreneur Cornelius C. Beekman at Historical Society events and sites — mostly in Jacksonville, but also at Hanley Farm and at the History Center in Medford. For more information, contact Harley B.
