Wayne "Fred" Johnson Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Jan. 10, 2015 at 2:00 AM Posted Jan. 10, 2015 at 2:00 AM » Social News Wayne "Fred" Johnson was born to Einer and Karen Johnson on the 12th of February 1935 in Stanton, Iowa, the youngest of 11 children. The family moved to the Rogue Valley following World War II in 1945, residing in the Griffin Creek area, where Fred went to elementary school. Fred graduated from Medford High School in 1953, where he played football, basketball and excelled in music and stage plays. Fred also had a passion for boxing under the supervision of Larry Burdette. Fred married Ruth Cardona in 1956 and had a daughter, Lisa in 1957 and a son, Jeff in 1959. Having a strong sales instinct, Fred had a successful career early in railroad shipping and later in waterworks, such as, pressure values and underground drainage systems. Fred remarried Beverly Newbry in 1974. They remained together until Beverly's passing in 2005. They enjoyed golf, travel, music and dancing, but especially family and get togethers throughout their years here in the Rogue Valley.
