By JONEL ALECCIA Mail Tribune For the 9-year-old Medford girl, returning home to her family after months in foster care has been the year’s best news. Slowly, her parents struggle to overcome the issues that split them apart. But one sad incident still troubles her. While the girl was living in foster care, her bicycle was stolen — and her family has no way to replace it. Advertisement That would be an inconvenience for most kids, but for this girl, it’s much more, a state advocate says. Her family has no car and bicycles are the clan’s sole means of transportation. The bike was the girl’s only way to get to and from school, where she sings in a choir and plays an instrument. "She’s a real good student," says Penny Esser, local foster care coordinator for the child welfare office of the state Department of Human Services. "And she has places she needs to go." This holiday season, a donation of a good-quality bicycle would help this 9-year-old build on her family’s recovery. To help, call Esser at 776-6120, extension 232.
