No matter that he worked diligently and honorably on behalf of the people of Oregon for years. Even worse, his own colleagues showed him no loyalty. Are there petty jealousies and animosities among them? The press maligned him, going so far as to print photos of the governor kissing his fiancée or holding her hand, photos presumably intended to negatively influence our impressions of their personal relationship. Meanwhile, the Richardson camp is salivating at the prospect of making us the Corporate State of Oregon, given this new opportunity. Snarky comments abound. Hopefully he will be vindicated and re-emerge at a later time in another role working for the people of our state. At the very least, he deserved a fair hearing, not that he would have received one. Thanks to the new snow, we reopened the ski area two weeks ago and have been overwhelmed with positive comments and support. We hope to see you this coming weekend. Lisa Beam, Ashland Killing the earth Remember the goose that laid the golden eggs? Greed-driven men killed her to secure more golden eggs, but it destroyed everything. The same thing is happening today with our beautiful earth. We are killing it in our quest for fossil-fuel riches. And make no mistake; man is doing this, not God. We are killing our earth by emitting gigantic amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere where they accumulate and reflect the heat back, making our world hotter and hotter. The science is not in dispute at all, and in fact, scientists have understood the mechanism since the 1800s. Even Alexander Graham Bell made note of this scientific fact and opted for alternatives to fossil fuels. Despite the scientific world being virtually unified in their understanding, humans remain on the fossil fuel fast track to Hell with KXL, LNG, coal, oil, natural gas, fracking and pipelines galore. Actual data and scientific facts are eschewed in favor of lies and misdirection — for a tidy profit, mind you. Our Mother Earth is being killed just like that unfortunate goose with golden eggs; killed by the murderous greed of man. And we could stop it if we cared.
