Police got a 911 call at 3:47 p.m. from John Carl Olson II reporting a domestic disturbance at an apartment he shared with his mother at the Medford Hotel, 406 W. Main St., Deputy Chief Randy Schoen said at the scene. When police and emergency medical technicians arrived, they found Olson’s mother, Chon Olson, 58, had been stabbed, Schoen said. A Mercy Flights ambulance crew rushed Mrs. Olson to Rogue Valley Medical Center with "life-threatening injuries," Schoen said. She was declared dead at the hospital, Lt. Mike Moran said later. He said police are awaiting an autopsy and medical examiner’s report to determine the cause of death. While emergency medical technicians treated Mrs. Olson, police took her son into custody, Schoen said. Officers also interviewed other tenants in the downtown building, he said. Wednesday evening Olson was lodged in the Jackson County Jail on a charge of first-degree murder. He is set to be arraigned today and the case will go before a grand jury next week, Moran said.
