Nearly two dozen firefighters from Jackson County Fire District No. 9 and the Rural/Metro fire department in Josephine County battled the blaze, which was initially reported by a neighbor at about 5:30 p.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation, District No. 9 Capt. Greg Gilbert said. No one was home when the fire broke out. Gilbert said there were "several dogs, cats and birds" at the two-story house when firefighters arrived. Residents of the home were not available by phone on Thursday night. Officials believe the fire likely started inside an outbuilding situated next to the home. Flames spread to the upstairs portion of the house, burning in what appeared to be a master bedroom suite, Gilbert said. Advertisement "It’s a beautiful home," he said. Firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading to the downstairs section of the house. Gilbert said crews had the fire under control within 25 to 30 minutes, but stayed on the scene until about 9 p.m. A damage estimate was not available Thursday night, Gilbert said.
