The wins sets up an important matchup on Tuesday, when St. Mary’s squares off with rival Cascade Christian for first place in the SCL. Vinyard racked up 27 points and 12 rebounds and Crennen had 20 points and 11 rebounds. “Our team came out hard from the get-go,” St. Mary’s coach Greg Conway said. “We were really hitting our shots tonight and our defense triggered a lot of our offense.” Nick VanValkenburg sparked the Crusaders (15-6, 5-1 SCL) off the bench with seven points, six assists and three steals. Eli Conway gave the St. Mary’s defense a shot in the arm with four steals to go with five assists. The Chieftains (11-13, 4-3 SCL) were led by Derek Pratt’s 14 points and seven rebounds, with Chris Campbell contributing 10 points, four assists and five steals. ST. Thomas Skaff and Ricardo Sabino each had 11 points and five rebounds and Mase Masalosalo and Angel Sauceda dropped in 10 apiece for the Pirates (3-18, 0-8 Sky).
