Ernest Chon Brown, 48, of the 600 block of North Berkeley Way, Medford, was arrested Tuesday on two counts of first-degree rape. He is lodged in the Jackson County Jail on $1 million bail. According to police, Brown allegedly assaulted the woman at his home. The victim, who was 33 at the time, alleges that he served her a drink, and shortly after she fell unconscious for several hours. When she regained consciousness the next morning, she suspected that Brown had had sex with her, but when she confronted him, he denied that had happened. The victim reported the incident to police and had a sexual assault forensic examination done within 24 hours. Medford police Lt. Mike Budreau said the victim was uncertain for some time about whether she wanted to press charges, which delayed the results from the examination and follow-up DNA tests from Brown. Brown was indicted by a grand jury July 15 and was arrested Tuesday. His pre-trial conference is scheduled for Aug. 17.
