Does that mean the plans for a casino have been abandoned? — Dave S., Medford Actually, Dave, it does not mean plans for the casino proposed by the Coquille Indian Tribe have been abandoned. “We’re not selling that property,” said Ray Doering, spokesman for the tribe. He said the “For Sale” sign is for a property next door. Actually there are two properties for sale next to the tribe’s land. A .47-acre lot at 365 Charlotte Ann Way and a .43-acre lot at 321 Charlotte Ann Way, each listed for $99,500. The tribe has been undergoing studies and completing the paperwork needed to get federal approval for the casino, Doering said. The Coquille tribe has asked the federal Bureau of Indian Affairs to place the 2.42-acre property, excluding an adjacent golf course, in a government trust. In addition, the Coquilles have asked the federal Office of Indian Gaming Management for an exception to a prohibition on gaming on lands acquired after October 1988. The former Kim's Restaurant building on South Pacific Highway was demolished last year by the Coquille Indian Tribe, which hopes to build a $26 million casino on the site in the future.
