How you can help during holiday season Here are opportunities to help others during the holiday season. Contact these agencies and groups to learn more: CERVS annual Rogue Valley Holiday Toy Drive -- Drop off toys in drop boxes at G.I. Joes, the Shenandoah, or at the CERVS office, 601 N. Grape St., Medford. Native American Outreach -- The Jerusalem Center Church is collecting supplies for their Native American Outreach and community service. They are seeking donations of any kind -- food, shelter and jobs are always needed. Contact Ray or Thelma Olsen at 482-2586. Emergency food boxes -- ACCESS Food Share (774-4322), CERVS (779-8564), and Ashland Community Food Bank (488-3886) are three agencies providing emergency food boxes this holiday season. Call the agencies for drop-off locations and hours. Children's Advocacy Center -- Accepting donations of gifts and toys for children up to 18 years of age. Community Works -- Accepting donations of new toys, clothing and gift certificates, and holiday dinners for children and families at Community Works, 900 E. Main St., Medford. For more information call Cass at 779-2393, ext. 228. Christmas Shoebox for Seniors -- ACCESS Senior Services is accepting gifts. Call 774-4308 for more information. Helping Hands Tree at Rogue Valley Mall -- Through Christmas Eve, people who want to help disadvantaged children can pick the name of a child off the Helping Hand Tree on the lower level of the mall, buy the child a gift from his or her wish list, and then drop the unwrapped present off at the Customer Service Center, also on the lower level of the mall. Holiday Giving Tree --Barnes and Noble for Jackson County Foster Parent Association has their Holiday Giving tree up and ready with names, ages and special interests of children throughout Jackson County who are in need of comfort and remembrance this year. Books purchased in Barnes and Noble will be discounted 10 percent to 20 percent. Barnes & Noble is at 1400 Biddle Road, Medford. Jackson County sheriff's bike drive -- The Jackson County sheriff's department along with CERVS and other local community groups are collecting new or used bicycles or tricycles in good repair for distribution to needy families. The bikes will be collected through Dec. 15. Drop-off sites: the Jackson County sheriff's department at 787 W. Eighth St., Medford; sheriff's office, Rogue Family Center, 2400 Antelope Road, White City; Applegate Rural Action Team office, 60 Upper Applegate Road, Ruch; Upper Rogue Rural Action Team office, 51 Mill Creek Drive, Prospect; Evans Valley Fire District No. 6, 8677 E. Evans Creek Road, Wimer; Jackson County Animal Shelter, 5595 S. Pacific Highway, Phoenix. For more information call Ed Temple at 774-6820. Prime Time Retirement Apartments Toy Drive -- Prime Time Retirement Apartments is collecting used and new toys for underprivileged families in the Rogue Valley. New and used clothing and household items are also welcome. Donations may be placed in the CERVS barrel in the front living room of Prime Time Apartments. Spirit of Giving Food Drive -- Each business participating in the "Spirit of Giving" food drive will donate a prize to be raffled on Dec. 19 on the Ashland Plaza. Raffle tickets can be obtained by donating food or cash at participating businesses. Each business has a list of other food drive locations where you can obtain raffle tickets.
