The annual gathering gives scholars and community members an opportunity to discuss the history, culture and archaeology of Northern California and Southern Oregon. Rose received the Jeffersonian Award, given each year since 2001, for her research and efforts to make archaeology more accessible to the public. In addition to being a research archaeologist at SOU's Laboratory of Anthropology, Rose is also a featured cast member on the PBS television program “Time Team America.” She routinely organizes and hosts public days at excavation sites that attract hundreds of people, and she serves as mentor to students in the SOULA lab. Most recently, Rose led large-scale excavations that resulted in the discovery of Peter Britt’s original log cabin in Jacksonville. The award was presented by Mark Tveskov, SOU professor of anthropology and SOULA director, and retired U.S. Forest Service archaeologist Jeff LaLande.
