The district’s coordinator of special education, Kirk Kolb, resigned this summer to take a job as an assistant principal in Grants Pass. Kolb wanted to work more closely with students, said Dan Zaklan, Medford’s personnel director. The district picked Bob Hartwig, principal at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School, as its new special education coordinator, Zaklan said. Hartwig has worked as an elementary principal in the district for 19 years and will be an excellent addition to the district’s central office, Zaklan said. Oak Grove Principal Art Peterson will take the helm at Abraham Lincoln, the district’s largest elementary school. Peterson has been with the district 26 years, has a wealth of experience and is widely respected, Zaklan said. Julie Evans will become principal at Oak Grove. Most recently a dean at Hedrick Middle School, Evans has long wanted to head an elementary school, Zaklan said. She has been with the district 15 years and has been training for a principal position for years. Advertisement Hal Jones will be an assistant principal at South Medford High School, filling the position vacated when Assistant Principal Kevin Campbell became the high school’s principal. Jones previously was a counselor at North Medford, Zaklan said. He recently completed courses to become an administrator and had been looking for an administrative position. The district hired Sheryl Lipski as assistant principal at Hedrick Middle School. Lipski has been a curriculum and technology specialist at the Southern Oregon Education Service District and brings strong curriculum development skills, especially in math, Zaklan said. Joe Cramer, Hedrick’s assistant principal, was reassigned to McLoughlin Middle School because of his strengths in athletics and discipline, Zaklan said. North Medford Assistant Principal Buzz Brazeau was slated to move to Hedrick, but instead took a job outside the district.
