FERC delays decision on whether to rehear LNG pipeline proposal Comment By Local report MailTribune.com By Local report Posted May. 9, 2016 at 3:28 PM By Local report Posted May. 9, 2016 at 3:28 PM » Social News The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has delayed its decision on whether to rehear a proposal for a 232-mile liquified natural gas pipeline that would cross through Jackson County. FERC issued an order today giving itself more time to decide whether to rehear Pacific Connector and Jordan Cove's permit applications to build the pipeline, which would run from Malin to Coos Bay, and an LNG terminal at Jordan Cove just north of Coos Bay. FERC did not give itself a deadline, however, on when it would make a decision on the two companies' appeal of its March 11 order denying the projects. The Coos Bay World reported that a Jordan Cove LNG spokesperson called today's announcement a positive. "This gives us more time to solidify the agreements they were seeking," Michael Hinrichs said. "They haven't confirmed a deadline, but we'll be continually getting them more information as we move forward." FERC ruled the project would have adverse impacts on landowners along the pipeline route, with little evidence to support the need for the line. But Jordan Cove officials say they have reached preliminary agreements for 50 percent of plant's capacity and are working for more, Hinrichs told The World. "That is what we are working toward and you can expect more announcements not only from the customer side, but from the pipeline," Hinrichs said. Jody McCaffree, a Coos Bay resident and director of Citizens Against LNG, said she's relieved FERC's denial remains intact while the regulatory agency considers whether to rehear the proposals. "I fully expect the FERC to hold to their original Order that has correctly denied the ill-conceived Jordan Cove project," McCaffree said in the release.
