A fire at 3770 Devil’s Garden Road, Medford, burned a large barn used for storage and generated a plume of black smoke visible from across town around 6 p.m. Medford Fire Department and Jackson County Fire District No. 3 rushed to the blaze, knocking down the shop fire and small grass fires sparked by flying embers. The barn was a total loss, but the grass fire was kept to about a 10th of an acre. Lake Creek Fire Department battled a grass fire on South Obenchain Road outside Butte Falls. District 3 also responded with trucks outfitted to fight structure and wildland fires. That fire, reported shortly after 5:30 p.m., burned several acres and some vehicles, officials said. At about 4:45 p.m. Evans Valley Fire Department went to a grass fire in the woods behind 309 Pleasant Creek Road. With the help of crews from Oregon Department of Forestry and Rogue River Fire Department, firefighters quickly quelled the flames. The fire was contained to about a quarter-acre, and crews stayed on the scene for about three hours to make sure it didn’t reignite and spread. At 12:20 p.m. District 3 firefighters went to a reported structure fire at 5209 Beagle Road. They found an 800-square-foot shop building engulfed by flames. They doused the fire, but the building was destroyed.
