Allred, coming off a top-10 finish last week, trails leader Matt Weibring by one stroke. Others at 65 are Darron Stiles, Tyrone Van Aswegen and rookie Patton Kizzire. Allred made four birdies on the front nine and, following an eagle, was 5 under through 13 holes. His round included the eagle, six birdies and two bogeys. He tied for eighth place at Cartagena, Colombia, last week. Allred has a morning tee time today, starting off 10th tee at 3:10 a.m. PDT. His threesome includes Weibring and Marc Turnesa. Weibring didn’t make every putt he looked at, but he made enough of them to move into the lead. Weibring rolled in seven birdie putts and holed out from a bunker for another, good for a 64 at the Sao Paulo Golf Club. First-round play was delayed for 1 hour, 16 minutes late in the afternoon because of dangerous conditions which prevented only nine players from completing their opening round. That group will resume play at 7:40 this morning, while the second round will start as scheduled at 6:40 a.m. Weibring was halfway down the 17th fairway when play was halted just before 4 p.m. and nearly chipped in for eagle at the par-5 but settled for an easy birdie after play resumed. A par at the 18th was enough to hold on to first place. Another 10 players are piled together at 5-under 66, including Patrick Rodgers and Andrew Landry, both tournament winners this season and ranked Nos. 1 and 2 on the Web.com Tour’s money list. Fourteen more players are at 4-under par. VALSPAR CHAMPIONSHIP: At Palm Harbor, Fla., Brian Davis used his short game to avoid a rough finish and take the first-round lead in the PGA Tour's Valspar Championship. Coming off back-to-back bogeys, Davis chipped in from 25 feet on the ninth green at Innisbrook for a 6-under 65, giving him a one-shot lead over past champion Sean O'Hair and Ricky Barnes. For the 40-year-old Davis, it was the perfect finish to go with what had been an ideal start. Starting on the back nine of the Copperhead course, the Englishman missed three birdie chances inside 15 feet and still went out in 30. There wasn't a hint of trouble until a three-putt from 45 feet on No. 7 and a poor chip at the par-3 eighth that led to bogey. And right when he thought he had hit a good approach on No. 9, he heard nothing. His chip came out with more over-spin because of the grain in the grass and might have gone about 6 feet by the hole except that it struck the pin. O'Hair got even more evidence that his game is turning around by making eight birdies in the morning for a 66. Barnes, playing in the afternoon, was tied for the lead until he three-putted the par-3 17th from 35 feet and missed a 12-foot birdie putt on the last hole. WORLD LADIES CHAMPIONSHIP: At Hainan, China, defending champion Inbee Park of South Korea and Becky Morgan of Wales shared the first-round lead at 4-under 69 in the Ladies European Tour's World Ladies Championship. The second-ranked Park eagled the par-5 18th and had four birdies and two bogeys on Mission Hills' Blackstone Course.
