COLLEGE BASEBALL ROUNDUP Beavers, Utes tie in 15 Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted May. 10, 2015 at 7:15 PM Posted May. 10, 2015 at 7:15 PM » Social News CORVALLIS — The 22nd-ranked Oregon State baseball team played 15 innings against Utah Sunday afternoon at Goss Stadium, but the game ended in a 2-2 tie due to the Utes’ travel schedule. Scotland Church pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings for the Beavers, striking out three while allowing two walks and two hits. He would have been the pitcher of record if the game had ended with a decision. Brock Duke tossed 8 1/3 scoreless innings against the Beavers in a relief outing for Utah. He allowed six hits but the Beavers were unable to get the winning run across against the right-hander. OSU went the last 10 innings without scoring a run. Caleb Hamilton drove in the game’s first run in the fifth on a triple, then scored when Michael Gretler hit a sacrifice fly. The game stayed 2-0 in favor of the Beavers until the eighth when Josh Rose hit a two-run home run, accounting for Utah’s offensive output on the day. The home run came off Oregon State starter, Travis Eckert, who worked 8 2/3 innings. He scattered four hits and two runs. His counterpart, Jayson Rose, allowed two hits and two unearned runs in 6 2/3 innings. Hamilton paced the Beavers offensively, collecting a career-high four hits. OSU tallied eight overall. The tie game is the first for Oregon State since the 1998 season. OREGON 7, WASHINGTON STATE 2 : At Pullman, Wash., Oregon picked up its third straight series win and its first of the Pac-12 season on the road with a win over Washington State at Bailey-Brayton Field. Oregon (29-22, 11-13 Pac-12) got out to an early lead behind three first-inning doubles. Austin Grebeck started the rally with a one-out double and scored on a Mitchell Tolman double. Phil Craig-St. Louis made it three straight doubles when he drove in Tolman for a 2-0 lead. The Ducks added another run in the top of the fourth inning. After three free passes, two walks and a hit-by-pitch, Tim Susnara picked up a RBI scoring Craig-St. Louis with a sacrifice fly to give UO a 3-0 lead. Oregon put two more on the board in the top of the seventh. After a couple of throwing errors by Cougar pitcher Colby Nealy led to runners on second and third, Tolman launched a two-RBI double to the left-field wall to give UO a 5-0 lead. Oregon tacked on two runs in the eighth. After a walk to Brandon Cuddy and a single by Daniel Patzlaff, Susnara drove his second run of the game home scoring Cuddy. Patzlaff then scored on a squeeze bunt by Mark Karaviotis for a 7-0 lead. WSU (26-23, 9-15 Pac-12) added single runs in the eighth and ninth innings.
