COLLEGE TRACK & FIELD Ghelfi, Sanders secure more All-American accolades Comment By SOU Sports Information MailTribune.com By SOU Sports Information Posted May. 22, 2015 at 7:07 PM By SOU Sports Information Posted May. 22, 2015 at 7:07 PM » Social News GULF SHORES, Ala. — Southern Oregon's Eric Ghelfi and Markus Sanders became All-Americans again and Zach Boyd-Helm clinched another top-eight finish Friday at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Ghelfi finished seventh in the 10,000-meter race, Sanders was sixth in the discus and Boyd-Helm clocked the top qualifying time in the 800 on the second day of the 64th annual meet. With a time of 31 minutes 22.63 seconds, Ghelfi earned the fourth All-American award of his career. He placed eighth in the 10K last season and has gotten the same honor the last two years at the NAIA Cross Country Championships. Sanders tossed the discus 170 feet 9 inches and, after last year becoming the fifth Raider ever to register two All-American performances in one meet, did the same as a senior. On Thursday he placed fourth in the hammer. Danny Parks, who was ninth in the hammer after being seeded 16th, settled at 13th in the discus with a throw of 155-1 1/4. Boyd-Helm owned the NAIA's fourth-best 800 time coming into the preliminaries (1:50.92) and topped the 18-person field at 1:51.93, qualifying with seven others for today's final. He'll attempt to outdo his runner-up finish of 2013. In the women's 10K final, Rebecca Lupescu took 16th of 20 with a time of 39:22.37.Amelia Maguin hit the finish of the 100-meter hurdle trials at 15.03 and was 22nd of 35, missing the qualifying cutoff. The SOU men's 4x800-meter relay team of Matt Williams, Henry Hall, Aidan Paulk and Gary Fanelli took 20th of 23rd in 7:54.88. The Raider men ended the day tied with six other teams inninth place with 10 points. Concordia (Neb.) leads with 38 points and Doane (Neb.) is second with 22.
