Dr. Stephen Edward Drabik MailTribune.com Writer Posted Sep. 5, 2014 @ 2:00 am Posted Sep. 5, 2014 @ 2:00 am » Social News Dr. Stephen Edward Drabik passed away suddenly of natural causes August 10, 2014, while vacationing in Rome, Italy. Steve touched the lives of many, as a son, older brother, partner, true friend and healer. He will be greatly missed. Steve was born October 28, 1955 in Detroit, Mich., to Ronald Stephen Drabik and Patricia Davis Drabik. He played varsity basketball at Manistee High School and received his B.S. degree in Biology at Michigan Tech University, then served 3 years in the Peace Corps in Nicaragua and Chile. He received his Doctorate in Chiropractic at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Santa Clara, Calif., and practiced for the last 25 years in Southern Oregon. Tall, competent and soft-spoken, Steve lived a life of action and adventure. He frequently explored the outdoors doing what he loved: skiing, playing ice hockey, hiking, mountain climbing, biking, kayaking, and traveling. He also played a wicked game of Scrabble. Steve was a good friend to many with a big heart, inquisitive mind and easygoing, fun loving demeanor. A soulful, avid powder hound, he was most joyful gliding through pristine, un-tracked snow. He was a proud certified member of the Association of Professional Patrollers, working on the Mt. Ashland Ski Patrol for 22 years, aiding injured skiers and assisting in rescue and avalanche control operations. A passionate telemark skier, for 17 years he was an active organizer and participant in the annual Screamin' Tele Lizard Classic a costumed ski race and fundraiser for the Special Olympics, in which he took home many medals. (Mail Tribune 3-18-2010, in Oregon Outdoors) Stephen is survived by his mother, Patricia Drabik Culver; his loving partner of more than 15 years, Penelope Dews; his brother and best friend, Eric Culver (Barb Culver); sisters, Susan Drabik (David Plank), Laurie Drabik-Clark (Rich Clark), and Jennifer Culver Lemuz (Paul Lemuz); eight nieces and nephews; and two great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his father. An Open House Celebration will take place from 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Sunday, October 19 at Pioneer Hall, 73 Winburn Way, Ashland, Oregon.
