Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend February 17, 2006 Medford chips in for interchange The Medford City Council agreed to contribute $12.8 million to the new south Medford interchange on Thursday. The Oregon Department of Transportation project will go out to bid in March, with construction beginning in spring or summer. The new interchange, priced last year at $65 or $70 million, will reduce congestion, improve safety and add east/west access across the city. The project is expected to be completed in 2009 or 2010. The council also awarded $760,000 to ODOT for design, installation and 20-year maintenance of landscaping and lighting at the site. In other business, the council: Advertisement Awarded a $323,802 contract to Motorola Corporation for additional radio communications equipment for the police, fire and technology departments. Agreed to spend $19,180 to purchase a new Sparky’s Hazard House Training Simulator, a training system for children; $13,286 of the amount comes from a federal fire grant, and $5,894 comes from the fire operations budget. The fire department presents the program to local schools. Awarded $239,659 to KOGAP Enterprises Inc. for 7,000 feet of sidewalk construction around six elementary schools. The construction is the second phase of the $4.6 million sidewalk bond issue passed by Medford voters last year.
