Man tries to flee police after routine traffic stop A Medford police officer received minor injuries Saturday night while stopping a local man who ran from him during a routine traffic stop. Michael Wayne Ashley, 23, no address available, was arrested after officer Kerry Curtis captured him on Central Avenue near Ninth Street. Ashley was charged with possession of amphetamine, attempting to elude police on foot, disorderly conduct, probation violation (driving under the influence of intoxicants), resisting arrest and harassment. Curtis said around 10:45 p.m., he stopped Ashley after he saw him "burn rubber" and peel out of Ground Zero parking-lot. "I told him to stay in the car," Curtis said. "He looked at me and started to run." Curtis said he chased Ashley along Central Avenue - weaving and dodging heavy traffic - and caught up to him near Ninth Street. The two men struggled until Curtis was able to subdue Ashley. Officer Ben Lytle and security members from Ground Zero also helped to end the struggle. Kerry scraped his upper arm on the pavement during the struggle but did not seek medical attention. Police said Ashley also had an Eagle Point warrant charging him with allowing a dog to run at large. Ashley was lodged in the Jackson County Jail without bail. Bail will be set at $44,000 when Ashley's probation violation is cleared, a jail official said Sunday.
