Weather spotters reported flooding in Selma and along North Applegate Road between Applegate and Murphy Sunday afternoon and evening after rain socked the region for most of the day. Evans Creek waters also crested the banks near Rogue River. Water also reportedly pooled close to a fence line near Fort Vannoy Elementary in Grants Pass. "Also Doppler radar indicates moderate to heavy rain continuing over the area with additional flooding likely in low-lying areas," an advisory read. "Local streams and creeks, including Little Butte Creek near Eagle Point, are running very high." By 5 p.m. Sunday, numerous spots around Southern Oregon had seen more than an inch of rain over a 24-hour period. Evans Creek near Rogue River saw close to two, with 1.06 inches falling over Medford. Big Red Mountain got 1.3 inches, Grants Pass saw 1.46 inches, and Crater Lake saw 1.4. More than two inches of rain dumped on Sexton Summit, which parts of Ashland received close to an inch. Another round of rain is expected Monday, though it's not forecast to be as fierce as weekend showers. "We're going to have several systems coming into Southern Oregon and the Rogue Valley this week, but there will be breaks in between each system, about half a day to a day between each," meteorologist Brad Schaaf said. Strong winds that reached gusts of 50 mph Sunday morning also closed the Mt. Ashland Ski Area for the day. Management made the official call at 7 a.m., as wind gusts pushed lift chairs to the point where they almost contacted the lift towers. Mt. Ashland Ski Area General Manager Hiram Towle said the call was "very easy" to make. "We are very upset over the need to close, but guest safety is our number one priority," Towle said in a news release. "The team worked through the decision methodically, considering all possible scenarios, and not one of them would allow safe operation of the lifts."
