On Feb. 10 a woman reported that her car had been broken into along Hybiscus Road and thieves had stolen her driver's license, checkbook, credit cards and food stamp card. Medford police Detective Sgt. Mike Budreau said the thieves found the victim's car window open just enough for them to disengage the lock. "That type of car break-in happens quite a bit," Budreau said. Later that day, two women used the food stamp card at a nearby Minute Market. "They bought $90 worth of items at the Minute Market," Budreau said. The Minute Market shopping spree was the only purchase made by the suspects. The victim was able to call and cancel the credit cards and checks before they were used. The clerk described one of the suspects as a white adult, about 25 to 26 years old. She was 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighed between 150 and 160 pounds. She had short reddish-brown hair. She was wearing a light-green bandana on her head and black Spandex pants. The second suspect was described as 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing about 175 to 180 pounds. She had bleached-blond hair. Budreau said the women are suspected in several other identity thefts around town. "We think they've done this before," Budreau said. Budreau said the case should serve as a reminder to keep items such as debit cards and checks locked in your house and not inside a car. "It only takes a couple of minutes for criminals to break in your car," he said. "They often target things which they use to steal your identity." The Minute Market provided surveillance photos of the two suspects. If anyone can identify the suspects, or has additional information on the crime, call Crime Stoppers of Southern Oregon at 1-800-850-0580. Mercedes-Benz of Medford will pay up to $1,000 for information that leads to the arrest and the filing of charges, and callers can remain anonymous.
