Pedestrian at fault in own death, Ashland police chief says By Morgan Rothborne Updated: Jan 06, 2023 06:14 PM A A A pedestrian killed Dec. 30 in Ashland was an unfortunate tragedy, Ashland police Chief Tighe O’Meara said. Kent Chamberlain, 79, was crossing Ashland Street at about 5:30 p.m. between Tolman Creek Road and Clay Street on a rainy evening, wearing all black, when he was struck by a car, O’Meara said. The investigation was taken over by STAR (Serious Traffic Accident and Response team), a cooperative effort between several local agencies to bolster traffic investigations, but in this case, O’Meara said, there wasn’t much to investigate. “The STAR team comes in and documents what’s going on, but there’s not a whole lot to it. It’s not a complicated crash investigation where we have to reconstruct what happened or what went wrong. It was really sadly, unfortunately the decedent stepped in front of a car while it was coming inbound,” he said. O’Meara said the driver was not impaired and was cooperative with police. “It’s a tragic, but in the end relatively unremarkable investigation,” he said.
