Roseburg slips past Black Tornado ROSEBURG � Roseburg dominated the field events and pulled out a couple of distance victories to edge North Medford, 73�-71�, in Southern Oregon Conference girls track and field Thursday. In the boys meet, Roseburg won, 81-64. As it usually does, the Black Tornado girls were a force on the track. Brittany Hodges breezed to wins in the 200 and 400 meters with times of 26.08 and 58.02, respectively. She also anchored relay teams that blitzed the Indians. In the 4 x 100 relay, North, with Emily Dunn, Denali Tice and Jennifer Abbott joining Hodges, clocked 50.19, more than four seconds better than Roseburg. In the 4 x 400 relay, it was Sarah Rountree and Rosanna Medina joining Hodges and Tice for a time of 4:12.03. Roseburg�s Melis Garner broke through with wins in the 1,500 and 3,000 for the Indians. Jennifer Lint had two firsts (long jump, triple jump) and two seconds (100 and 300 hurdles) for the Indians. In the boys meet, North Medford had two individuals who won two events. Scott Myers claimed the shot put (56-7�) and discus (167-8). Matt Parish captured both the 200 and 400 comfortably, with times of 22.44 and 50.18, respectively. KLAMATH UNION SWEEPS EAGLE POINT � At Klamath Falls, Blake Cam was Eagle Point�s only double winner, otherwise Klamath Union dominated the boys and girls events. The Pelicans defeated the Eagles 112-33 in boys and 99-46 in girls. Eagle Point sophomore E.C. Holden posted a personal best in winning the 110-meter hurdles (17.0). The Eagles also got a victorious performance from freshman pole vaulter Steve Hammond (12-6). Lauren Jespersen (800, 3,000) and Luis Garcia (long jump, triple jump) were double winners for the KU boys. In the girls meet, Eagle Point�s Alisa Lee won the shot put (34-8), took a second in the discus and third in the javelin. It was a personal best in the shot and her javelin throw of 102-8 was the first time she passed the 100-foot mark. The Eagles finished one-two in the 200 meters with Dani Rouhier (27.4) and Ali McBee (27.6). Pelican sprinter Sam Gilbert, runner-up in 100 at the Class 4A state meet last year, and middle distance runner Sara Schaaf were double individual winners.
