LOCAL ROUNDUP Mustangs taken by surprise NORTH BEND -- North Coos accomplished what few teams have been able to this season: Beat the Medford Mustangs. North Coos turned nine double plays during Wednesday's American Legion twinbill, turning back the Mustangs 4-2 in the first game. The Mustangs (42-3 overall, 9-1 league) got off to a slow start in the second game, but rallied for five runs in the fourth inning to salvage a 7-6 split. In the first game, North Coos' Jeremy Henry and Ike Ellis each produced two-run home runs to help lead North Coos to the two-run victory. The Mustangs outhit North Coos 6-4 in the first game, but could only muster solo runs in the second and third innings. Jason Brownell led the Mustangs in the first game with a 3-for-3 effort, including a double. Casey Campbell and Nate Mayben each chipped in with two hits in the nightcap, with Brent Foster and Charlie Jensen each adding a triple. District 6 Little League MEDFORD AMERICANS EARN SPLIT -- In senior girls softball action, the Medford American squad split a doubleheader with South Suburban on Tuesday. Medford won the first game 8-7, then fell short in the second game 15-13. The two teams will play a final game today at 5 p.m. in Klamath Falls, with the winner advancing to the state playoffs in Portland on July 24. District 8 Little League ROGUE RIVER WINS TITLE -- Paced by pitchers Jamie Artoff and Katie Glasscock, Rogue River won the senior softball tourney title with an 8-5 victory over Illinois Valley on Tuesday.
