Historic house will be moved What's the story on that old house along Highway 62 in Eagle Point, the place with the metal fence around it? That place has been around as long as I can remember. Now it looks like they are going to tear it down or something. You guys ought to do a story on that. -- Maureen F., Applegate Tsk, tsk, Maureen. You apparently missed the Mail Tribune story Dec. 24 on the fact that the Eagle Point Historical Society is getting ready to move the historic Wood house. The organization has been given the house, circa 1870, and plans to move it to downtown Eagle Point, where it will be turned into a children's museum. The society wants to preserve the long vacant but picturesque house built by Civil War veteran Marvin Sylvester Wood. It has attracted photographers and painters for decades. Quality Fence Co. of Central Point donated a chain-link fence to protect the house from vandals until it is moved. Actually, this will be the second move for this old house. It originally stood a few hundred feet to the west but was moved about 50 years ago when Highway 62 was widened. The group hopes a property owner will donate a small parcel to provide a permanent resting place for the house.
