Layne was born July 7, 1970 in Grand Coulee, Wash. to Alan and Sharon Battenfield. Layne grew up in Trail, Ore. He graduated from Eagle Point High School in 1988. He went on to continue his education at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Ore. Layne started working in heavy highway road construction when he was 17 years old. He started his career with Elting Inc., then moved on to LTM, Inc. After many years at LTM, Layne went to work for Rockford Construction and helped to build part of the Ruby Pipeline. He then worked for several companies out of state until a year ago, where he found a home as a Superintendent with Oregon Mainline Paving. He was a loyal and proud member of Operating Engineers local 701 Union, and he received his 25-year pin this past December. His dedication to his job was unlike any other. He was respected and admired by all in the Construction community. Layne married Karee Battenfield (Primasing) in November of 2000. When he married Karee, he lovingly accepted two step-children into his life, loved them unconditionally, and became their father. They went on to have two more children, and he could not have been more proud of all four of his kids. They were his focus in life. Layne had two passions, his family and fishing. He felt the closest to God when he was on the river. We all knew during Steelhead season where he could be found. The love, commitment, and loyalty he showed his wife and kids, was unmeasurable. Layne was such a strong, yet kind gentle man, and a spiritual leader and role model. Layne is survived by his wife, Karee; daughter, Kylee; sons, Brody, Traven, and Tallon; father and mother, Alan and Sharon Battenfield; sister, Laura Marten (Shawn); niece, Alayna Lodi; father and mother-in-law, Ron and Judy Primasing; sister-in-law, Jodi Woods (Edgar); and several nieces and nephews. Layne was preceded in death by his grandparents, Tex and Madge Battenfield, Virgil and Marie Bicknell, and Troy and Ethel Carter. Layne touched so many lives during his 44 years. He made such an impact on this world, both in work, and in his friendships. When he called you a friend, you knew that you were special. His quiet sense of humor, hard work ethic, love of God, and clever wit, will live on in his children and his love for his wife will never be forgotten. A memorial service is planned for 11:00 a.m. Saturday May 9, 2015 at Table Rock Fellowship, 3610 North Pacific Hwy, Medford, Ore. 97501. A reception will follow. A private family burial will take place preceding the service. Memorial Contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children-Portland. 3101 S.W. Sam Jackson Park Rd. Portland, Or 97239-3009.
