Lea Kathryn Jones, 23, of the 1400 block of Poplar Drive, entered not guilty pleas Aug. 8 in U.S. District Court to felony charges alleging she created, distributed and transported sexually explicit materials, according to documents filed in the case. The alleged victim is a child for whom Jones was parent or guardian, the documents state. They allege that on or about July 15, Jones compelled the child to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of recording it, that as a parent or guardian Jones allowed the child to be recorded, and that she mailed or shipped and transported the sexually explicit materials. Calls to Assistant U.S. Attorney Judith Harper, who is prosecuting the case, were not immediately returned Tuesday. A more detailed indictment and other court documents have been sealed by prosecutors, court records show. Jackson County Jail records show that Jones was arrested by U.S. marshals and was booked in jail July 15. She remains lodged in the jail without bail. Jones pleaded not guilty to felony counts of sexual exploitation of children for the production of child pornography, sexual exploitation of children involving a parent or guardian permitting the production of child pornography, and transportation of child pornography. Her next court appearance is set for Sept. 19, and a trial date is tentatively set for Oct. 11, court records show. Jones has no prior convictions in Oregon, according to court records.
