Alejandro "Alex" Garcia, 26, of the 200 block of Monroe Street, is being held in the Jackson County Jail on $1.5 million bail. He is charged with three counts of first-degree rape, first-degree sexual abuse and first-degree unlawful sexual penetration. Garcia was arrested on Jan. 16 after a 10-year-old girl told a school staff member that he had been sexually abusing her for two years, according to a police affidavit. During the sexual abuse, Garcia allegedly put his hand over the victim's mouth and told her to be quiet because he would go to jail if he were caught. Garcia allegedly told the girl he would kill her family, the affidavit said. The girl said Garcia forced himself upon her numerous times, causing her pain, the affidavit said. First-degree rape, first-degree sexual abuse and first-degree unlawful sexual penetration are Measure 11 crimes that upon conviction carry mandatory minimum prison sentences ranging from six years to 25 years when the victim is younger than 12.
