Oregon Senate passes bill requiring paid sick leave Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Jun. 10, 2015 at 3:01 PM Posted Jun. 10, 2015 at 3:01 PM » Social News SALEM — The state Senate has voted to require that many Oregon businesses offer paid sick leave for their employees. The bill cleared the Senate in a 17-13 vote Wednesday. The bill now goes to the House, which could take it up as soon as next week. The bill got support from only Democrats, who say people shouldn't have to work while they're sick. Republicans strongly oppose the measure, saying it will make it harder for businesses to grow and hire more workers. The bill applies to organizations with at least 10 employees. Workers will be able to accrue up to 40 hours of paid leave per year, which they can use to take care of their own illness or a family member's.
