Moran's key responsibilities with the bank include identifying and fixing potential breaches at physical branches, along with identity theft and fraud protection. He stepped into the post about a month ago. "It's kind of similar to my past a little bit," Moran said. "I've got the responsibility of long-range planning features of the job, but as things pop up, I'll respond to them." Moran said he will report to Vice President of Enterprise Risk Management Scott Mulkins, who reports directly to bank CEO Gene Pelham. Moran said he has already paid visits to most of the banking corporation's 17 branches in southwest Oregon and will continue to coordinate with them all as needed. "Having one person within our organization who is always on the lookout for new problems and solutions before they become a problem is kind of what I'm going to be doing," Moran said. Prior to his new post, Moran worked in law enforcement for 40 years, including 29 years with Medford police and eight as Talent's chief. He retired from Talent in April. Two months later, he became the Democratic nominee for state House District 6 after nabbing 617 votes in a write-in campaign. He will challenge Rep. Sal Esquivel (R-Medford), in the general election this fall. Bank officials said they are pleased to have Moran on board. "We're obviously a target. Any time you're dealing with money, you're a target," said Rogue Credit Union Executive Vice President Matt Stephenson. "We believe it warrants having somebody of Mike's expertise and character." Stephenson added that Moran has already done some work for Rogue Credit Union. He previously served on the bank's supervisory committee, a volunteer group that reports to the board of directors on financial safety and oversight matters.
