By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune October 26. 2014 4:23PM Shots fired into Medford home The third gang-related drive-by shooting incident in a monthlong span in Medford was reported early Sunday morning. Medford police reported the incident happened at about 2:45 a.m. in the 2300 block of Finch Lane, a neighborhood just off North Ross Lane. Police said suspects peppered a home with several gunshots. The man and his two children living inside the home were not hurt. "We do think that this is gang-related, and we do think tensions are high right now," said Lt. Mike Budreau, adding why this particular home was in the crosshairs of a gang is unknown. "In this particular case, we don't believe the victim was involved in gang activity, which is odd." Authorities believe they know which gang is responsible for the act, though they declined to release it, saying the investigation is still active. They also declined to release the exact number of shots, saying more bullets could be recovered.  "If it's like other gang incidents in the past, it doesn't take much to have some kind of violent reaction by a rival gang," Budreau said. "It's hard to say what causes it." The two previous incidents were reported Sept. 25 and Oct. 20. On the night of Sept. 25, several witnesses reported hearing parties in multiple vehicles yelling at each other near the Black Bird Shopping Center, followed by two to four gunshots. The investigation found no evidence of injuries, damage to structures or vehicles, or shell casings. Police identified the vehicles involved in the incident but did not make any arrests. The Oct. 20 shots-fired call took place at 10:28 p.m. at the intersection of Dakota Avenue and Benson Street after another report of parties yelling at each other. Like the Sept. 25 incident, officers struck out recovering any evidence. Police are asking anyone with information about any of the incidents to contact the department at 541-770-4784.
