Robert Ernest "Bob" Wright Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Aug. 19, 2015 at 2:00 AM Posted Aug. 19, 2015 at 2:00 AM » Social News Robert Ernest "Bob" Wright On the evening of Friday, August 14, 2015, Bob passed away at his home in Medford, Ore. after a two year battle with COPD complicated with heart issues. Bob was 82 years old. He was born in Medford at Sacred Heart Hospital on August 31, 1932 to LeRoy "Frank" and Ruth (Hudson) Wright. Except for his time serving in the U.S. Air Force, Bob lived his entire life in the Rogue Valley. Bob joined the U.S. Air Force in 1953 and served in the Korean Theater from 1954-55. After returning from Korea, he was stationed at Manzano Base in New Mexico for two years before being honorably discharged in 1957. Bob was trained as an Air Policeman, and was part of a K-9 team with his beloved German Shepard, Bodo. With his Army staff car, Bob was a fixture at local events and parades over the past three decades. He was a long time member of the Military Vehicle Collectors Club and one of it's founding members. A dedicated and skillful scrounger, Bob never met a box of stuff that he was not excited over and he was always able to sweet talk his wife into letting him bring it home. Bob greatly influenced many young lives in the local area in the mid 1960s and early 1970s. As a 32nd Degree Mason and Dad Advisor for the local DeMolay chapter, he not only guided these young men with his advice, but led by example. Bob demonstrated honor, loyalty and courage through his daily service to the community as an officer and detective with the Medford Police Department, over a career spanning thirty-two years until his retirement in 1989. Bob had a wide variety of interests: hunting, camping, black powder and military history, but most of all, he was devoted to family and friends. He easily made friends wherever he went; no one was a stranger. He had an intense interest in people. Bob had many cherished friends around the country that will miss him deeply. Bob was married to Sandra Stoltz in Reno, Nevada in 1982. He spent thirty-three years with his love and best friend, every hour packed full of life. Bob is survived by his wife, Sandra; his daughter, Brenda Williams and her husband, Gary; his son, J.C. Wright and his wife, Rhonda; his daughter, Kelle Clark and her husband, Scott; seven grandchildren: Alicia (Johnny), Bobby Ray, Chase (Christy), Stacy (Brett), Adam (Elle Jay), Hunter and Mitchell; and three great-grandsons: Connor, Elijah and Bain. Bob was predeceased by his son, Bobby Wright and his daughter Sherry Barnes and her husband, Jerry. Bob will be interred at the Eagle Point National Cemetery with full military honors Friday, August 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. An open house will follow at the family home from 1:00-4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the U.S. War Dogs Association (http://www.uswardogs.org/donations/) or Military and Law Enforcement Working Dogs Rescue & Support (http://www.save-a-vet.org/d7/donate). The family would like to thank all of the professionals, family and friends that have provided services, assistance and support throughout Bob's illness.
