Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend June 22, 2005 Ashland council refutes ethics charge about free OSF tickets ASHLAND — Ashland resident Philip Lang has accused City Council members of unethical behavior for accepting free tickets from the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. "It is unethical and it is improper," Lang told the council during its Tuesday night meeting, noting that each year, the council awards the Festival funds generated from the city’s lodging tax. After the meeting, all the councilors said they had accepted Festival tickets.According to Ashland City Attorney Mike Franell, each councilor may accept tickets as long as the value of the tickets stays below limits established by Oregon Revised Statutes. All councilors said they believe they have stayed under the $250 annual limit. Lang called on the councilors to commit to not accepting tickets in the future and to pay the Festival the price of the tickets received. In other business, new Councilor David Chapman was sworn in, replacing former Councilor Chris Hearn. Hearn resigned in May to devote more time to his family and law practice.
