Medford committees need members The Medford mayor and City Council are looking for people interesting in serving on city boards, commissions and committees. Residency in the city of Medford is a requirement for serving on most city boards. Application forms are available in the city manager's office, Room 312, City Hall, and on the city's Web page: www.ci.medford.or.us The application deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 31. Interviews will be scheduled in January with appointments effective Feb. 1. For more information, call 774-2000. Budget Committee: Three positions. The budget committee meets primarily in the spring to review the budget document prior to forwarding its recommendation to the City Council. The council will appoint three three-year terms. The Urban Renewal Agency also has three positions on its budget committee which will be appointed by the Urban Renewal Board of Directors. Communications Advisory Committee (CAC): Three positions. The CAC meets on the second Wednesday of each month to review comment cards and to determine if complaints and problems have been addressed. Ward 2 council members will appoint a two-year vacancy for Ward 2, Ward 4 council members will appoint a two-year vacancy for Ward 4, and the committee will appoint a two-year vacancy for a community-at-large member. Hospital Facilities Authority Board of Directors: Two positions. This board acts as a conduit which allows nonprofit hospital facilities to float tax-free bonds and meets only when called, generally once a year. The City Council will appoint two four-year terms. Residency is not required. Joint Transportation Subcommittee: Two positions. This committee meets the fourth Wednesday of each month to advise the City Council and Planning Commission on matters affecting transportation policy in the city and the surrounding area. The City Council will appoint two four-year terms. Municipal Court Judge Pro Tems: Four positions. The City Council will appoint four 1-year terms with approval of the municipal court judge. Parks & Recreation Commission: Three positions. This commission acts as an adviser to the council on matters pertaining to acquiring and developing public parks and recreation facilities and promoting and encouraging the arts and performances. The commission meets the third Tuesday of each month. The council will appoint three three-year terms. Planning Commission: Two positions. This commission meets the second and fourth Thursdays of each month on matters relating to zoning, growth and development in the city. The council will appoint two four-year terms. Site Plan & Architectural Commission: One position. This commission reviews architecture, landscaping, signs and any other improvements to new development projects and improvements to existing structures. The commission meets the first and third Friday of each month. The mayor will appoint one licensed engineer to a four-year term. Street SDC & Street Utility Category of Use Appeal Board: Six positions (Three regular and three alternate positions). The board shall consist of one member of the business community who is also a member of the Chamber of Commerce, and two representatives of the general public. This requirement also applies to the three alternate positions. The boards shall meet to hear an appeal within 14 days after an appeal is filed. The mayor will appoint six two-year terms. Transient Lodging Tax Review Committee: Two positions. The City Council will appoint one four-year term for a hotel/motel operator and one four-year term for an attorney. The committee reviews the administration and enforcement of the Transient Lodging Tax Ordinance and meets only when called per Medford code. Unified Appeal Board: 11 positions. The City Council will appoint two-year terms to perform the function of those boards created by the Uniform Building Codes, the Plumbing Codes, the Electrical Code and the Mechanical Code. Members must have knowledge of the building field. Water Commission: One position. The Water Commission maintains, manages and operates the water system for the needs of the city and meets the first and third Wednesday of each month.
