More than two dozen breweries offering 50 beers will take over Bartlett Street and Middleford Alley from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 11, in downtown Medford for the Southern Oregon Craft Brew Festival. Tickets are $16 and include a commemorative pint glass and five tasting tickets for four-ounce pours of craft beer. Additional tickets for five tastings cost $5 or 12 tastings for $10. Food will be available from Downtown Market Company along with Fired Up, Peruvian Point and Wok Star food trucks. "It's an opportunity for everyone to taste amazing beers. People can come and talk about beer and sample different beers they may have not tried before," says Chris Dennett, co-organizer of Medford Beer Week and the Southern Oregon Craft Brew Festival. Saturday's street fair will be preceded by a range of games Friday, June 10, that will make adults feel like kids on the playground again. "The events are fun and they reflect craft-brew culture. As a culture, we take our beer very seriously — but we don't take ourselves too seriously," Dennett says. Back again by popular demand, the free, fourth annual Ninkasi Brewing Company Total Domination Dodgeball Tournament will pit co-ed teams against each other in a contest of ball hurling, dodging and catching on Bartlett Street beginning at 6 p.m. Friday. Check-in starts at 5:30 p.m. for teams that haven't preregistered, with any remaining tournament spots going to the first teams that arrive. Teams can range from four to 10 players and must include at least two women and two men. "It's fun to watch even for people who are not on a team," Dennett says. "A lot of times, the teams dress up in silly ways or they have team T-shirts. People enjoy it. They look forward to it." New this year, an epic battle between light and dark forces will play out during "Star Wars"-themed laser tag from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday at Schoolhaus Brewhaus, 525 Bigham Knoll Drive, Jacksonville. Choose your side, dress the part and come out in teams of four or be placed on a team. There will be Hop Valley Brewing IPA and lager on tap, live music by the Odas Williams Soul Revue and a "Star Wars" screening in the Death Star Bar. It's $5 to play, or $2.50 with five items of nonperishable food. Proceeds benefit ACCESS. Opposition Brewing Company celebrates the classic pub game of darts with a Dart Throw Tournament from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at 545 Rossanley Drive, Suite 106, Medford. For people who are all-too-familiar with the pain of accidentally stepping on a Lego while barefoot, Beerworks Bar & Bottle Shop has created the ultimate challenge at 323 E. Main St., Medford. Try to walk for 10 feet across a minefield of Legos without spilling a drop from a full pint of Firestone Walker Brewing to win prizes. The event lasts from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. "For people who have kids, they know what it's like to step on a Lego in the middle of the night. Walking barefoot on Legos is like walking on fire," Dennett says. "This is essentially like a 'fire pit' of Legos." For a night of laughs, the Black Market Comedy group will perform at 7 p.m. Friday at Walkabout Brewing Company, 921 Mason Way, Medford. The group is a collective of stand-up comics living and performing in Southern Oregon. Various restaurants and brew pubs in Medford will join in Friday's and Saturday's festivities with drink and food specials.
